The Home Page

Set the Intranet as the home page employees see when they open BNControl, and lay it out yourself. Nine boxes across the page hold whatever your staff reaches for during the day - the policy manual, the rate sheet, the shared folder on the network, the training library, the link to the core.

Everything else in BNControl sits one selection away in the navigation. Announcements and Notes show a green counter for anything the employee has not read yet.

  • One place for policies and procedures
  • Boxes you name, fill, and arrange
  • Links to shared folders on your network
  • Widgets alongside the links
  • Unread counters on the navigation
  • Star any link to keep it in your favorites

Every Box Has an Audience

Each container has its own permissions, so lending sees the lending box, tellers see theirs, and every employee gets a home page made up of the boxes that apply to their job.

Permissions are set two ways on each container - who can see the links inside it, and who can add or change them. Assign them to groups and a new hire inherits the right page on their first day. Individual users can be granted permission as well, for the cases a group does not cover.

  • View and edit permission set separately
  • Granted by group or by individual user
  • Department heads maintain their own box
  • New employees inherit the right layout
  • Announcements targeted the same way

Build the Layout

The standard layout ships with nine containers - eight for links and one in the center for widgets - and none of it is fixed. Add a container, name it, drag it where it belongs, and remove the ones you have no use for.

A container holds as many links as you want to put in it. Set the maximum number to display and anything past that count moves into a More option at the end of the list, so a box with forty documents behind it still takes up the same space on the page as one with six.

  • Add link containers and widget containers
  • Drag a container to move it
  • Rename or remove any container
  • Permissions managed from the same screen

Links to Everything

A link on the Intranet points wherever the work already lives. A folder browser link opens a UNC path on your network and files open straight from the share, so a procedure is edited in place and saved back where it came from.

Uploaded links work the other way. The file is stored read-only and users download a copy, which suits the current version of a form or a policy that should not be edited. External web links round it out, and any link can be flagged to open in a new window.

Links can be nested under another link to group a long list, dragged into the order you want, and deactivated rather than deleted while a document is being replaced.

  • Folder browser links to network shares
  • External websites and internal sites
  • Drag and drop to upload files
  • Deactivate a link without deleting it

Widgets

A widget container holds something other than a list of links. Birthdays and work anniversaries for the current week fill themselves in from your employee records, and nobody keeps a separate calendar to make that happen.

The widgets pull from the same data as the rest of BNControl. Year to Date PIN vs Signature shows a rolling twelve months of debit card counts and amounts, and the Loan and Deposit Portfolios widget shows the portfolios with a filter for branch and market. Weather is by zip code, and with zip codes on your branches each employee sees their own.

Custom widgets cover everything else. Write a formatted message for the Saturday support number or the holiday schedule, or upload an image and point it at a link.

  • Birthdays for the current week
  • Work anniversaries for the current week
  • Local weather by branch zip code
  • PIN vs Signature debit activity
  • Loan and deposit portfolios
  • Custom messages and custom images

Announcements

Announcements put internal news on the home page instead of in everyone's inbox. Write one, give it a start date, and it appears with a green counter until it has been read. Employees open it to see the full text, who posted it, the dates it runs, and anything attached.

Every announcement can be aimed at part of the staff instead of all of it. Choose groups, branches, or a market, and only those employees see it. Leave all three alone and it goes to everyone. An end date takes it back down on its own, so last quarter's notices are not still on the page.

  • Schedule with a start and end date
  • Target by group, branch, or market
  • Attach documents, forms, and pictures
  • Unread counter on the home page
  • Print an announcement
  • Reporting on what has been posted

Employee Directory

The directory holds every employee with their photo, position, branch, and contact numbers. Browse by branch or by market, or search by name, email, phone number, title, or branch to go straight to a person.

Branches show their own detail alongside the people. A branch shows its photo, address, phone and fax, and how many employees work there, which makes the directory just as useful for finding a location as it is for finding a person.

Filters cover positions, birthdays this week, work anniversaries this week, and any user tags you have created. Selecting an employee opens their details, including their About information, their hire date and tenure, and who they report to.

  • Photos, titles, branches, and contact numbers
  • Browse by market and branch
  • Filter by position, tags, and dates
  • Search by name, phone, title, or email
  • Export the directory to CSV
  • Print a phone list or the full directory

Organization Chart

The reporting structure is built from one field. Set who each employee reports to on their user record and the chart draws itself, top down, from the president to the newest teller. There is no separate diagram to maintain.

Open it for everyone or for a single branch. Search a name and the chart pans to them with their full reporting chain highlighted, and selecting a card opens that employee with their contact details, their manager, and their direct reports.

  • Everyone or a single branch
  • Search highlights the reporting chain
  • Pan, zoom, expand, and collapse
  • Unassigned employees flagged
  • Print the chart as a PDF

Favorites

A star appears throughout BNControl, and everything you star lands in one list in the top navigation bar. Customers, accounts, audits, projects, vendors, reports, financial reports, forms, and the links on this page all go in the same place, and the list is personal to each user.

A favorite can have a note and a follow-up date. When the date arrives the favorite moves to the top of the list and the star in the navigation bar shows a counter, past due first and in red, so a customer you set a reminder for is waiting at the top of the list on the day you asked for.

  • Star anything from anywhere
  • Notes and follow-up dates per favorite
  • Past due and due today at the top
  • Auto arrange, or group them yourself
  • Your own headers, dragged into order
  • Search your favorites as you type

Photo Gallery

The photo gallery holds pictures from the community event, the branch opening, the United Way drive, and the holiday party, organized by event and by year.

Name a gallery, give it the date the event took place, and upload the photos. Link it from a container on the home page and it sits alongside everything else your employees open.

  • A gallery per event
  • Organized by year
  • Upload photos in bulk
  • Linked from the home page

The Rest of the Portal

Several parts of the Intranet run on every page, not only the home page. Quick links in the top navigation bar are available to everyone and hold release notes, user guides, and whatever else you add. The search box finds customers, accounts, and reports from anywhere, and a customer can be found by name, TaxID, or first initial and last name.

The application drop-down launches the programs employees use next to BNControl - the core, the teller system, anything installed on the workstation - with arguments where a program needs them. The toolbar down the side covers the rest, including Outlook, Excel, Word, printing the current page, and locking the workstation.

  • Quick links on every page
  • Search customers, accounts, and reports
  • Launch core and third-party applications
  • Pass arguments to a launched program
  • Version and last import date in view
  • Lock the workstation from the toolbar

One Place to Start

Employees stop hunting through mapped drives and bookmarks. The policy, the form, the shared folder, and the core are all on the page they already open first.

A Connected Staff

Announcements reach the right branches, the directory puts a face to a name, and birthdays and anniversaries turn up without anyone maintaining a list.

Yours to Change

Containers, links, widgets, and permissions are all managed by your own administrators. Moving a box, adding a link, or changing who sees what is done inside the application.
